We’re delighted to introduce Suryansh Sabharwal, a talented young guitarist whose passion, discipline and impressive technique make him a true rising star. At just 12 years old, Suryansh has already developed a remarkable love for the guitar.

Inspired by rock legends such as Metallica and currently exploring demanding pieces such as Paul Gilbert’s Technical Difficulties, Suryansh demonstrates a level of commitment that is exceptional for a musician of his age.

In this interview, he shares his musical journey, practice habits, inspirations and the support that helps him continue growing as a young musician.


Stefan: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Suryansh: Hi, my name is Suryansh Sabharwal and I am 12 years old.

I was born in India, raised in Bahrain and now living in Dubai.

I love playing guitar and apart from that I also learn classical Hindustani vocals, in sports I love playing snooker and solving rubik’s cubes.

Stefan: You are only 12 years old and already playing guitar so well.

How does that feel?

Suryansh: It feels great to be able to play guitar.

I enjoy making my fingers fly across the fretboard of the guitar.

At just 12 years old, Suryansh is already demonstrating remarkable dedication, musicality and technical skill on the guitar. His passion for music and commitment to daily practice continue to inspire those around him.

Stefan: Aside from playing guitar, what hobbies do you enjoy?

Suryansh: I enjoy playing snooker, football, badminton and solving rubik’s cubes.

I am also learning Hindustani vocals.

Stefan: What is your favourite subject of school?

Suryansh: My top two favourite subjects at school are Hindi and Mathematics.

Stefan: What do you like doing with your friends?

Suryansh: I love playing outdoor games like football or cycling or sometimes indoor games like ‘Monopoly’ or ‘UNO’.

Stefan: Do your friends know that you play guitar?

Suryansh: Most of them know as whenever we meet, we talk about our likes and dislikes.

Stefan: At what age did your parents first notice that you had a special talent for guitar?

Suryansh: At the age of 6, during covid, I used to see my friend play guitar and I tried to play by seeing and learning and my parents saw me playing well and I started learning from classes.

Every great guitarist develops strong foundations. With determination and careful guidance, Suryansh is building the technique and confidence needed to take his playing to the next level.

Stefan: What made you want to learn the guitar?

Suryansh: I used to go to my friends’ house and he used to play guitar, and he taught me a few things about it, and I found out I had a wonderful talent for guitar.

Stefan: What do you love most about playing guitar?

Suryansh: The thing I love most about playing guitar is that when I just hold it in my hands, I get that feeling that I can go completely crazy on playing the music I like.

Stefan: Your teacher says your picking technique is really impressive.

Can you show us how you pick the strings?

Suryansh: Mostly alternate picking.

Stefan: We heard you practice almost everyday for at least 1 hour.

What helps you keep going?

Suryansh: The fact that I’m improving a lot is because my mother shows me inspiration videos to motivate and show me what I could become at a young age if I focus and practice.

Stefan: What has been the trickiest thing you have learned on guitar?

Suryansh: The trickiest thing that I’ve learned is down-picking ‘Master of Puppets’.

It’s amazingly difficult to down pick that fast.

Stefan: Can you use one exercise or riff you practice at home?

Suryansh: An etude in A minor or as I call ‘shady’.

Stefan: What guitar skill would you like to get even better at?

Suryansh: The guitar skill that I would like to get better at is shredding and tapping.

Stefan: Who is your favourite guitarist or band?

Suryansh: My favourite band is ‘Metallica’ because they have created amazing riffs and songs.

Stefan: What song or guitar solo are you enjoying the most right now?

Can you show us a small part of it?

Suryansh: I am enjoying and learning ‘Technical Difficulties’ by Paul Gilbert.

Stefan: Your parents are very supportive of your music.

What message would you like to give them?

Suryansh: I would thank them a lot for all that they’ve done for me.

It’s all because of them that I have reached this level.

Stefan: What do you enjoy most about your guitar lessons at S&C Music?

Suryansh: The thing I love at S&C is that even if you’re not playing perfectly, the teachers will never let you give up and shape you into a flawless masterpiece.

Stefan: What would you say to another young student who wants to learn guitar?

Suryansh: I would say to practice a lot of exercises to get better at playing and never give up even if it gets boring.

Stefan: Can you play us one final cool riff to finish the interview?
